Reiki: Healing, Growth, Spirituality and Community

A Series of Short Workshops to Support you in Reiki

January to July 2011

When the idea of doing a series of afternoon or evening workshops came to me (during a Reiki treatment) what I really liked about it was the potential it offers for Reiki people to learn, grow and get to know each other over the months. I have already found that in the Reiki Shares there is a growing sense of community, but often it feels like there is a need for more: for a chance to ask deeper questions, to spend time together exploring a particular aspect of our practice.

So here is an opportunity for you to learn more about Reiki and yourself. Usui Shiki Ryoho (the system of Reiki I teach and practice) offers four Aspects: Healing Practice, Personal Growth, Spiritual Discipline and Mystic Order. My aim is that all four of these Aspects will be implicitly reflected in this workshop series. We will experience the Mystic Order by being together and exploring. Our exploration will no doubt lead to Personal Growth. We will hopefully come to a better understanding if what is meant by Spiritual Discipline and we will certainly be practicing Healing!

Some are workshops I have offered before, some a brand new. There will be the opportunity in all the workshops for you to ask your own questions as well as exploring any mentioned here. Come willing to learn about yourself and about Reiki!

One series took place in Birmingham at Central England College, Kings Heath on Sunday afternoons, the other in Ludlow at Ludlow Conference Centre (formerly Bishop Mascall centre) on 1st Tuesday of the month in the evenings.

The workshops were open to anyone who has received initiation (attunement) into Reiki in the physical presence of their Reiki master.

  • Basic human anatomy for Reiki practitioners
The National Occupational Standards for Reiki state that practitioners should know basic human anatomy. This can be helpful when people ask for your help and in understanding some of the things that happen in treatments. I’m not a trained biology teacher so it really will be basic hopefully light hearted and fun!
  • The Gift of Self Treatment

When you learned Reiki you gave yourself a wonderful gift: the possibility of giving Reiki to yourself. The ability to treat ourselves with Reiki simply and effectively is one of the great benefits of this healing art.

So do you use your gift? Or is it like a forgotten present, ignored and unused?

Maybe you don't know how: if you have forgotten the sequence of hand positions for treating yourself – or perhaps were never taught them, this workshop is for you.

Maybe you know how, but you don't know when: It might be that you do remember how to give yourself Reiki, but somehow you find it difficult to find the time to treat yourself or you struggle to treat yourself every day. This workshop is also for you.

Maybe you would just like to share the experience: If you are already treating yourself regularly perhaps you would like to come along and share your experiences and share a self treatment with others. We have found that self treating as a group creates a special energy as we share our practice in the same room as others.

“Having the opportunity to share with others the problems and doubts that we have concerning the discipline entailed in self treatment was reassuring! I went away knowing that I was not the only one who felt guilt etc when self treatment was not practiced every day. I did however gain much encouragement and enthusiasm from the workshop” Jean, Retired Nurse

  • Reiki and money

Money is one of the Nine Elements of Usui Shiki Ryoho, offering us the opportunity to explore our relationship with it. How does money fit with spiritual practice? Is it OK to ask for money in exchange for Reiki? Why is this sometimes difficult to do? How do we decide how much to charge? We will be exploring these questions and more!Money is one of the Nine Elements of Usui Shiki Ryoho, offering us the opportunity to explore our relationship with it. • Exploring the Reiki Principles

The Reiki Principles seem simple but are not so easy to follow! What do the Principles really ask us to do? How can we incorporate them into daily life? What use are they if we do? Why is there usually one Principle we find particularly irritating? Where did the come from? Why do we have them? We will explore these questions and more!

“Thought-provoking/stimulating/accessible/powerful. A really interesting and enjoyable afternoon” Deb, Complementary Therapist

“there was more to it than I expected. I realised that with Reiki you can go to great depths if you choose” Ester, Stained Glass Artist
  • The story of the Spiritual Lineage

In many First level Reiki classes students are told the story of the spiritual lineage. It may or may not seem relevant at the time. Often it helps students to understand more about what Reiki is and of course tells us where it comes from. In this workshop there will be the opportunity to hear this story or to explore what lineage means and why it is important. What is the difference between the Spiritual Lineage and our own master lineage? Is it important we know our own lineage? Who is next in line? We can explore these questions and more...!
