In 2023 I offered an Online Seminar Series for Practitioners

in partnership with

In partnership with The Reiki Association I offered a series of six online seminars for Reiki practitioners.  You can read more about them below and let me know if you are interested in attending one in future

I like to foster an open minded approach to learning, recognising that each of us has something to contribute from our experience, so in addition to the teaching there will be break out groups, giving you an opportunity to explore the ideas with other Reiki practitioners.  It is also my hope that this will foster community for Reiki practitioners (which is also one of the values of The Reiki Association).

These seminars which are two hours, will be held via Zoom and count towards Reiki CPD - a certificate can be provided on request.

The Path from Informal to Professional Reiki Practitioner

7.00 pm BST 31 May 2023

At a time when many people are feeling the challenge of daily life, there is the potential for more well-prepared Reiki practitioners to offer comfort and support. Could you be one of them?

Have you noticed a feeling that you would like to expand the circle of those you give Reiki to, but feel unsure about whether this is right for you? Are you drawn to giving Reiki to the public, making it a greater part of your life? Would you like to know more about what is involved in being a professional Reiki practitioner to explore whether this could be your work and provide you with some income? Is it time for you to develop your Reiki practice further? Perhaps you are already giving Reiki to the public and would like to deepen your understanding of what is involved.

Based on a description of three potential phases of Reiki treatment practice, developed at a series of Public Practice Conferences in USA and UK between 2001 and 2003, this seminar will explore what those phases are and give participants an opportunity to discuss them with other Reiki students. The conferences were organised by Phyllis Furumoto and Paul Mitchell and brought together Reiki practitioners from different countries and various stages of practice, so the description resulted from a wide range of experiences. The understanding of these phases helps us to identify where we are in our development and where we can develop further and may help you to understand whether the calling to follow a path to being a professional Reiki practitioner is really for you.

The Importance of Self Care for Reiki Practitioners

7.00 pm BST 21 June 2023

Looking after ourselves is not just nice to do, but of real importance when we are offering Reiki sessions to the public, so that we're fit to practice.

What does 'fitness to practice' mean?  We will explore this and why it means that taking care of your own well-being and health is even more important when giving Reiki sessions to the public on a regular basis.  We will exlore why having a regular self healing practice can make a difference to our success as practitioners.

As caring people we often put the needs of others before our own and some of us have been taught that looking after ourselves is selfish and to be avoided. However without self care we can become burnt out and the service we offer to others can be of lower quality.  We will also explore what other forms of self care we might also need to support us in our work, so that we can give the best service we are capable of.

As Reiki practitioners we have the amazing gift of being able to give ourselves healing easily, so in addition to the usual break-out room discussion we will all do a self-Reiki together, using a simple 8 hand-position form.  So come prepared to relax at the end of the session - have somewhere comfortable to sit or lie and a blanket and pillows ready if you need them.

Our Role as Professional Reiki Practitioners

7.00 pm BST 26 July 2023

for Reiki practitioners of all levels

What is different about our way of being when we become a professional Reiki practitioner?

What is the role that we hold and what does this mean in relation to how we act, prepare ourselves and perform our practice as professional Reiki practitioners?  What does the public expect of us as professionals?

We will explore this topic both through the experience of Reiki master Kate Jones and through discussion with other Reiki practitioners.  This will include asking whether we are looking to fix, help or serve those we give Reiki to.

One of the characteristics of being a professional is recognition as such by ourselves, our peers and the wider circle of society. We can also explore how this is achieved and what preparation we may need for this.

This seminar is open to all Reiki practitioners, whether or not you are already a professional practitioner.

Supporting the Healing Process

7.00 pm BST 27th September

for Reiki practitioners of all levels

What difference does it make to see healing as a process rather than one-off events?

One of the characteristics of professional practice, explored in the recent seminar on the Three Phases of Reiki Practice, is that our Reiki healing sessions become a process rather than a series of one-off events. In this seminar we will explore what this means and what understanding supports us in holding this for those we give Reiki to.

We will discuss what difference it makes for the person we treat to give a series of treatments instead of one or a few. We will also think about what difference this makes to our own commitment when we do this.

In this seminar we will also explore what health means, including what life events can affect people’s health and well being, and how Reiki can contribute to the healing process.

As in previous seminars there will be break-out room discussions, giving you the opportunity to explore this topic with other Reiki practitioners.

This event is held in partnership with The Reiki Association which receives a share of the income.  A CPD certificate will be issued by The Reiki Association for those who attend the event live.

How to set your fees as a Reiki Practitioner

7.00 pm GMT 27 October

for Reiki practitioners of all levels

When we start offering Reiki treatments to family and friends, they often wish to express their gratitude by giving us something in exchange. In some Reiki systems this is part of our practice. Many Reiki practitioners feel uncomfortable about this and when our practice develops further and we begin to offer Reiki to people we don’t know, the exchange is more likely to be money and the discomfort can increase.

As professional practitioners, we are offering our service as part of our livelihood, so asking for a fee becomes essential.

In this seminar we will explore how to we decide how much to ask for our Reiki treatments, how to feel more comfortable doing so and look at what amount we might need to charge in professional practice to provide us with an income.

Kate will share the advice of Hawayo Takata and Phyllis Furumoto, both experienced Reiki practitioners and masters. We will also explore the difference is between transactional and reciprocal exchange, why payment for Reiki treatment is appropriate and how to decide how much to ask for.

The seminar will include a break-out room discussion for you to explore this topic with fellow Reiki practitioners.

Sharing the Wonder...

7.00 pm GMT 29 November

for Reiki practitioners of all levels, but most relevant to those practising publicly

Now that you're ready to take flight, giving Reiki to the public, how do you 'share the wonder' and find people to treat? Join me to explore

As you move into Public Practice - giving Reiki to people you don't know - it can become more difficult to tell people about how wonderful Reiki is, because we don't necessarily know their world view.   It is even more difficult when we become professional practitioners and treat complete strangers.  So how do we find people to share this wonderful treatment with?

Non-Manipulative Marketing

Following the Reiki Principle of 'Earn your living honestly' we would seek to market our services in an honest and non-manipulative way. We are surrounded by marketing that does not work that way, so how do we market our service sucecssfully while staying in tune with our Reiki practice? With over 30 years of experience as a practitioner working with the public this has been a constant exploration of Reiki master Kate Jones and in this seminar she will be sharing some of what she has discovered and supporting you in finding ideas that will work for you.

An opportunity to hear from others

The seminar will include a break-out room discussion for you to explore this topic with fellow Reiki practitioners.

Recording

This seminar will be recorded for those registered. It will not be made publicly available.
